SoundFerry troubleshooting
Updated September 2026
Work through the checks below for missing speakers, playback problems or timing differences.
A speaker is missing
- Check that the receiver supports AirPlay or Chromecast and that network playback is enabled.
- Keep the Mac and receiver on the same local network. Guest networks and client-isolation settings can prevent discovery.
- Wake the receiver and check its network connection.
- Check Local Network permission for SoundFerry in macOS settings, where shown.
- Open SoundFerry setup and confirm that the streaming service is available.
Use the exact device model and firmware when checking manufacturer documentation. Brand or purchase year alone is not sufficient.
The selected speakers are silent
- Confirm that SoundFerry is the Mac output and that the source app is playing on the Mac.
- Check the app’s own output setting, if it has one.
- Check master volume, mute and receiver volume.
- Confirm that the required setup steps and licence or trial activation are complete.
- Start with one speaker and allow several seconds for playback to begin.
Record any status message shown by SoundFerry. It can help distinguish a capture problem from a receiver or streaming-service problem.
Playback drops out
Dropouts can involve the network, receiver, streaming service or Mac. Change one thing at a time:
- Try a smaller speaker group to identify whether one receiver is involved.
- Check Wi-Fi signal quality and network congestion.
- Try Ethernet for devices that support it, or a Wi-Fi connection with better coverage.
- Check whether the Mac or receiver sleeps when playback stops.
- Review the setup status and any displayed errors.
Speakers sound out of step
Listen near adjoining rooms with a familiar recording. Adjust the per-speaker synchronization delay in small steps and listen again after the buffer catches up.
Receiver processing and network conditions can affect timing. Confirm that required services are running in setup. If a particular combination remains difficult to align, test those speakers separately and include the result when contacting support.
Streaming stops with an error
Record the error, check initial setup and confirm that the streaming service and receivers remain available. Then try starting playback again.
If it repeats, note whether it happens after sleep, a network change or adding a particular speaker. These details help narrow the cause.
Another AirPlay sender cannot connect
Stop SoundFerry streaming before testing the other sender. If the receiver remains unavailable, check SoundFerry’s AirPlay service status and the receiver connection.
If the problem persists after stopping, report the displayed status and the other app you are using. Avoid changing several network or service settings at once.
The driver needs an update
Use the driver-update control in Settings and follow the installer. Restart the Mac afterwards so the updated driver is loaded. Return to initial setup if the app still reports a mismatch.
