Spotify on every HomePod, from your Mac
Ask Siri and Apple Music fills the house. Play the same album from Spotify on the Mac two metres away and you get one speaker. The difference is not the HomePod — it is that Apple built grouping into its own apps and nowhere else.

Audio route
The asymmetry, explained
SoundFerry routes Mac system audio through a virtual speaker instead of relying on player-specific integration. Check that the player uses the Mac system output.
SoundFerry uses system audio rather than a Spotify integration. Other audio sent to the same Mac output is included.
SoundFerry sends the same audio to multiple network outputs and provides per-speaker synchronization delay adjustments. Check timing on your own device and network configuration.

Install SoundFerry and restart the Mac once
It adds an output device called
SoundFerry. macOS loads audio drivers at boot, so this happens once. - 02
Tick every HomePod you want
HomePods, HomePod minis and Apple TVs all appear automatically. A stereo pair shows as a single output and keeps its imaging.

Press Start, then point macOS at SoundFerry
System Settings › Sound › Output, or Option-click the volume icon.

Play Spotify
Spotify does not need to know anything about AirPlay — it is playing to the Mac's output device, and that device is now every HomePod in the house.

Questions
Why can Siri put Apple Music on every HomePod but Spotify cannot?
Because the grouping lives in Apple's software, not in the speaker or the protocol. Siri and the Music app can build a synchronised AirPlay 2 group; SoundFerry uses a separate local engine for system-wide routing.
SoundFerry does not try to add the feature to Spotify. It becomes the Mac's output device, so Spotify never has to know.
Can I ask Siri to play Spotify on the HomePods instead?
On iOS you can set Spotify as the default music service for Siri requests, and a HomePod will then play Spotify — but only on that HomePod or a group you built in the Home app, and only for music Spotify's catalogue can serve. It does not help with a podcast in a browser tab or a DJ set in VLC.
The two approaches coexist happily; SoundFerry changes nothing about Siri.
Does this work with a HomePod stereo pair?
Yes, and the pair appears as one output with its stereo image intact. Ticking it sends left and right to the correct unit. You cannot accidentally break the pair.
Will the HomePod undo my EQ?
Partly. HomePods apply their own correction and dynamic processing after receiving audio, so aggressive bass boosting gets partly compensated away. The EQ shows its worth much more on speakers that pass the signal through honestly — an AirPlay 2 WiiM, an AirPlay 2 Sonos, or a receiver behind an Apple TV.
Does Spotify Connect still see my Mac?
Yes. Your Mac stays a normal Connect target and your phone can still hand playback to it. Many people run the Mac as the house player and use the phone purely as the remote.
Do the speakers actually stay in sync?
SoundFerry manages playback across selected speakers. Timing depends on the devices and network; SoundFerry provides per-speaker delay adjustment. Try your speaker combination before purchasing. No fixed synchronization accuracy is guaranteed.
How much delay is there?
The managed default audio path adds several seconds of delay. It is intended for listening rather than live instrument monitoring, gaming or video calls. Video playback may need delay compensation.
How much is it, and is it a subscription?
19 USD buys a perpetual license for version 1.x. Updates such as 1.0 to 1.1 are included. Version 2.x requires a separate purchase, with pricing not yet decided. There is no subscription. Other currencies are converted from the USD price.
What is in the free trial?
The trial lasts seven days and requires no payment card. An internet connection is required to start it, after restarting the app, and every 12 hours during use. The server manages expiry; changing the Mac clock does not extend it. Purchased licenses are verified offline.
