Troubleshoot AirPlay playback on your Mac
Check discovery, output selection and connection stability in order. Use the symptom you see to narrow the next step.
Speaker not listed
Confirm that the device is powered on, supports AirPlay and has current software. Connect it and the Mac to the same local network, then check the receiver’s AirPlay access settings. Guest networks or device isolation can prevent discovery.
If the sending app requests Local Network access, check its permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security. A wired device and a Wi-Fi device can share a local network; matching Wi-Fi bands is not a requirement.
Listed but unable to connect
Check whether another device is already playing to the receiver. Stop that session and retry. If several audio tools are active on the Mac, stop the other streams while testing. Check the receiver for a pairing code or password prompt.
Restart the affected devices if needed and follow Apple’s AirPlay troubleshooting steps. Keep speaker access restrictions appropriate for your network.
Connected but silent
Check the volume and mute state in the player, Mac and receiver. Confirm that the player uses the intended output; some players retain their own selection. For SoundFerry, confirm both that the Mac output is SoundFerry and that streaming to the selected outputs has started.
Playback cuts out
Test one speaker at a time and note whether the problem follows a device or only occurs in a group. Check wireless coverage, speaker firmware and the app’s connection status. Try Ethernet where available or reduce the group temporarily to narrow the cause.
Network conditions are one possible cause, rather than proof that every dropout is a Wi-Fi problem. Record the affected device and any error message if you need support.
Audio and video are offset
SoundFerry’s standard network audio route adds several seconds of delay. Speaker delay controls adjust timing between outputs; they do not automatically delay the picture. For video, choose a route that handles both picture and sound or a player with an appropriate offset control.
Only one speaker can be selected
Mac Control Centre selects one AirPlay destination. For Music playback, use the Music app’s multiple-speaker AirPlay menu. For Mac system audio, see the guide to multiple-speaker routes.

Can I adjust the timing between speakers?
