AirPlay support depends on the device and its software. Here is what to check when planning a multi-speaker Mac setup.
What to check before choosing speakers
Look up the exact model and firmware in the manufacturer’s documentation. A purchase year or brand name alone does not establish AirPlay support.
Apple documents multi-speaker playback through the Music app’s AirPlay controls. The Mac Control Centre AirPlay output selector does not offer that same multi-speaker selection. Apple’s AirPlay audio guide.
Using receivers with SoundFerry
SoundFerry discovers network outputs through its streaming service. Select your speakers and begin with a familiar recording. Discovery is the first check; successful playback and timing need to be checked on the actual devices.
For a mixed group, listen near adjoining rooms and use the per-speaker delay controls if needed. Timing depends on receivers, settings and the network, not just the AirPlay version label.
Plan for buffered playback
The standard SoundFerry setup introduces several seconds of audio delay. This is suitable for music and background listening. When watching video, check whether the player can compensate for the delay.

Questions
Can I adjust the timing between speakers?
SoundFerry provides a delay control for each speaker to help align playback. The result depends on the speakers and network. Use the trial to check your saved groups in the rooms where you listen.
How much delay is there?
Audio reaches the speakers a few seconds after it plays on your Mac. SoundFerry is designed for music listening; instrument monitoring, games and calls need a faster response. For video, check whether your player can compensate for audio delay.
What do I need?
macOS 14 or later on Apple Silicon, compatible AirPlay or Google Cast speakers on the same network, and administrator authentication to install the driver. The distributed PKG is for Apple Silicon.
