Nobody at Apple calls it that, which is why searching for it returns Bluetooth headphone articles. The thing people mean — one Mac, everything it plays, several speakers, in step — has no name in Apple's documentation because macOS does not offer it. It does exist.

Where the word comes from
Multipoint is Bluetooth vocabulary. It describes a headset holding connections to twosources at once — your laptop and your phone — so a call can interrupt a podcast. One sink, two sources.
What people ask for on a Mac is the mirror image: one source, many sinks. One machine playing one thing, arriving in four rooms with timing adjustments available. Borrowing the Bluetooth word for it is natural and completely understandable, and it is also why the search results are useless.
The phrase that finds real answers is system-wide AirPlay to multiple speakers — with the emphasis on system-wide, because that is exactly the line macOS draws.

Questions
Is "multipoint AirPlay" an Apple term?
No. Apple does not use it anywhere. People borrow it from Bluetooth, where multipoint means one pair of headphones connected to two sources at once — which is close to the opposite of what is wanted here.
Apple's own vocabulary is "AirPlay to multiple speakers", and the feature is described as part of the Music app rather than of macOS.
So what should I search for instead?
"AirPlay multiple speakers Mac", "system-wide AirPlay macOS", or "Mac multi-room audio". The word that unlocks the useful results is system-wide — that is the distinction between what Apple Music does and what you are asking for.
Does the Mac have anything like Bluetooth multipoint?
Not in the sense of one output feeding several destinations, no. macOS pairs one output device at a time and AirPlay in the system menu is single-choice. The one place multi-destination playback exists is inside the Music and Apple TV apps.
Can't macOS do this already?

How much delay is there?
The managed default audio path adds several seconds of delay. It is intended for listening rather than live instrument monitoring, gaming or video calls. Video playback may need delay compensation.
Will macOS ask for microphone access?
SoundFerry uses an output-only virtual audio driver and does not request microphone permission.
How much is it, and is it a subscription?
19 USD buys a perpetual license for version 1.x. Updates such as 1.0 to 1.1 are included. Version 2.x requires a separate purchase, with pricing not yet decided. There is no subscription. Other currencies are converted from the USD price.
What is in the free trial?
The trial lasts seven days and requires no payment card. An internet connection is required to start it, after restarting the app, and every 12 hours during use. The server manages expiry; changing the Mac clock does not extend it. Purchased licenses are verified offline.
