Choose where Spotify plays
To play Spotify on multiple speakers from a Mac, keep Spotify playing on the Mac, select SoundFerry as the macOS sound output and choose compatible speakers in SoundFerry. This routes one listening session to your selected rooms. Check your speaker models, network and timing during the trial before buying.
If Spotify is playing directly on a speaker through Spotify Connect, that audio does not pass through the Mac. Open Spotify’s device picker and select your Mac as the playback device when using this setup. Spotify describes Connect as remote control of playback on another device in its official Connect guide.
SoundFerry is a Mac app for routing audio. It does not add speaker grouping to Spotify’s Connect menu or run directly on an iPhone. The Mac needs to remain the source for this route.
Choose the route that fits your speakers
Start with the grouping features available for your exact speakers. A single-brand multi-room system may already meet your needs. SoundFerry is useful when you want to route Mac audio to compatible AirPlay or Google Cast outputs and reuse a selection across apps.

The Mac Control Centre selects one AirPlay destination. The Music app has its own multiple-speaker AirPlay controls; that distinction concerns the playback route, rather than a limitation of all other apps. Apple’s AirPlay guide.
Adjust the sound you send
Spotify includes a desktop equalizer. SoundFerry offers a separate set of audio controls for the Mac output, so you can use the same processing when switching from Spotify to another player. Start with one EQ active to make adjustments easier to hear. Spotify’s equalizer guide.
Set up playback

Install and complete initial setup
Follow the installer and setup guide, including the audio driver, required runtime and Mac restart.

Choose SoundFerry as the Mac output
Open System Settings → Sound → Output and choose SoundFerry. In players with their own output setting, select the system output or SoundFerry.

Select your speakers and start streaming
Choose the available compatible outputs in SoundFerry. Complete pairing if prompted, then start playback.

Save the rooms you use together
Adjust the volume and timing while listening, then save your selection as a group.

If Spotify is silent or only one room plays
- Check Spotify’s playback device first. If it names a speaker instead of the Mac, switch playback back to the Mac.
- Confirm System Settings → Sound → Output is set to SoundFerry, and that Spotify is playing rather than paused.
- Check that your Mac and speakers are on the same network. Select each desired receiver in SoundFerry and complete any pairing prompt.
- Test one receiver, then add the others. If one is missing, confirm its exact model supports AirPlay or Google Cast and follow the setup and pairing guide.
- If adjacent rooms sound out of time, adjust per-speaker delay while listening. Buffering creates a few seconds of delay; this route is intended for music listening.
Questions
Can I play Spotify on multiple speakers at once?
Yes, with a playback route that supports a speaker group. For SoundFerry, play Spotify on the Mac, choose SoundFerry as the Mac output and select compatible network speakers. A manufacturer’s own grouping system may also cover your setup.
Is Spotify Connect the same as AirPlay?
No. Spotify Connect lets one device control Spotify playback on another. AirPlay sends audio to compatible receivers. When using SoundFerry, Spotify must play on the Mac so its audio reaches the SoundFerry output. Spotify explains Connect here.
Why does only one speaker play from Mac Control Centre?
Apple’s Mac Control Centre selects one AirPlay destination. Apple Music has separate multiple-speaker controls, but those control playback in Music. For Spotify on a Mac, use a route that distributes the Mac audio to your selected speakers. Apple documents this distinction.
Does SoundFerry work directly on an iPhone?
No. SoundFerry runs on a Mac. This guide requires Spotify playback on that Mac; it does not install a multi-room audio router on an iPhone or iPad.
Can other Mac audio play through this route?
Yes. Audio sent to the SoundFerry output follows the same speaker selection. This can include browser audio and notifications; use Focus or adjust alert settings when you want music only.
What do I need?
macOS 14 or later on Apple Silicon, compatible AirPlay or Google Cast speakers on the same network, and administrator authentication to install the driver. The distributed PKG is for Apple Silicon.
Can I adjust the timing between speakers?
SoundFerry provides a delay control for each speaker to help align playback. The result depends on the speakers and network. Use the trial to check your saved groups in the rooms where you listen.
How much delay is there?
Audio reaches the speakers a few seconds after it plays on your Mac. SoundFerry is designed for music listening; instrument monitoring, games and calls need a faster response. For video, check whether your player can compensate for audio delay.
